My 13 year old iPad saved me a $1,000

My 13 year old iPad saved me a $1,000

In 2011, my dad got an iPad. It was a pretty fancy one and had 3G support with 16gb support. We barely could fill up half of it.

Ironically, my dad almost never used it and gave it to me. Anyway, for over 8 years, it has been sitting in the garage. The only good thing I can say about it is that it turns on. I can see the Apple logo and that yet. That is all it did.

How did a 13-year-old iPad save me AUD1000?

It is no surprise to readers of this blog that I have been eagerly awaiting the launch of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, especially after the unfortunate events of the Pixel Fold.

My Pixel Fold is no more 🤖
💔TLDR: Because of a tiny stuck pixel on my Pixel Fold’s inner display, I no longer have an Android phone in my life. The size of the stuck pixel is beyond any exaggeration: Zoomed into the tiny stuck pixel: What happened? On 1st May 2024, I noticed a small imperfection

Please note that the Pixel Fold was never officially released in Australia. The one I had was imported from Japan.

Thankfully, Pixel Fol 9 Pro has officially launched in Australia with a RRP of AUD2,699. Interestingly, it's less than what I paid for the original Pixel Fold.

There were several preorder deals that were available and initially I placed an order with the Google Store, which, with the benefit of promo code, I reduced the cost down to AUD2200.

Last week, I came across another offer which basically was $1000 off if trading any device. I went searching around the house for a device but couldn't find any I could trade in. I found the 2011 iPad, and I went to the trade in website which valued this iPad at $1. Honestly, it sounded too good to be true but since this was from one of the largest retailer in Australia, I thought, I may as well give it a go.

Cutting the long story shot, I have a Pixel 9 Pro Fold on preorder which I paid only AUD1,698 ($2,699 - $1,001). This is approximately USD1150, which is still not cheap but much more digestible.

In my opinion, getting a discount of almost 40% off the retail price is a good deal. All thanks to the 13-year-old iPad. Even more impressive that the Samsung Fold 6 that was released last month retails for AUD2749. Google is under cutting Samsung. As a consumer, I welcome and encourage these kinds of competition.

Looking forward to unfolding the future soon 🤟
